Stephen P. Koff Prize

 

The Stephen P. Koff Prize is awarded by the RISC-RISE Consortium for an outstanding Ph.D. dissertation in a field related to social cohesion.
All those who have completed their dissertation at one of the consortium’s member institutes or who are presently affiliated with one of the consortium’s member institutes (even if the Ph.D. was awarded by a non-member university), are eligible to apply. Eligible candidates may have received Ph.D.’s focusing on issues related to social cohesion, such as (but not limited to) environmental questions, social risk and disasters, public health, immigration, development, democratization, urban security, etc. may apply.

In Memoriam

The Stephen P. Koff prize, which is privately donated by Dr. Koff’s family in order to honor his memory, has been named for him in tribute to his contributions to social cohesion through international dialogue and education in this field. Dr. Koff was a professor of political science at
the Maxwell School of Syracuse University who worked to improve social cohesion through international academic exchange programs and community action in Europe and North America, in addition to his teaching and research.
